What to Check Before You Buy Electrolyte Tablets Online
You've decided you want electrolyte tablets. You've maybe tried a tube from a friend or a gym bag. Now you're at the point of actually ordering, and the choice is between a one-off pack, a bigger box, a subscription, a marketplace listing or buying direct.
The short answer: before you buy electrolyte tablets online, check five things. Who's selling them, what one serving actually costs including delivery, how the subscription works if you choose one, the returns policy, and whether the formula suits the way you'll use it. This guide takes each in turn, using HIRO as a worked example.
1. Who you're buying from
Buying direct from the brand means you get current stock, the full product information and the brand's own guarantee. On marketplaces, check who the seller is and who ships the order. Third-party sellers can be fine, but you're more likely to get older stock or miss out on the brand's returns policy.
Whichever route you take, check the best-before date when the order arrives, and that the tube is sealed.
2. The real cost per serving
Box prices are misleading because packs hold different numbers of servings, and some brands use two tablets per serving. Work it out like this:
- Find the number of servings in the pack (not the number of tablets).
- Divide the price by the servings.
- Add delivery if your order is under the free-delivery threshold.
At HIRO, delivery is free on orders of £30 or more and on all subscriptions, and £2.50 below that. Here's how our packs work out at current prices:
| Pack | Servings | One-off | Per serving | Subscription |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Triple Pack (3 tubes) | 30 | £24 | 80p (88p with delivery) | From 60p |
| 6 Pack (6 tubes) | 60 | £42 | 70p | From about 53p |
| 12 Pack (12 tubes) | 120 | £84 | 70p | One-off only |
Prices change, so check the product page before you order. Our electrolyte tablets price guide shows the full sums, including a comparison with sports drinks.
3. How the subscription works
Subscriptions usually save money, but only if you use what arrives. Before you sign up, check:
- The discount. HIRO takes 15% off on intervals from three to eight weeks, and 25% off if you choose delivery every three months.
- Flexibility. You should be able to skip, pause, change the interval, swap flavours or cancel from your account without calling anyone. You can do all of these with HIRO.
- Your real usage. Count how many drinks you'd have in a normal week. Four a week is roughly a 6 Pack every three months.
Set a reminder for your first couple of renewals. If tubes are building up in a cupboard, lengthen the interval.
4. The returns policy
Look for a clear money-back guarantee, how long it lasts and how to claim. HIRO has a 60-day money-back guarantee on all orders, and the full terms are on our Delivery & Returns page.
5. Whether the formula suits you
Most of us use electrolytes on ordinary days: at a desk, travelling or after a short workout. On those days you're unlikely to be losing much sodium, and average adult salt intake in England is already 8.4g a day against a 6g limit (GOV.UK, NDNS). Potassium is more often the one people fall short on; the NHS recommends 3,500mg a day for adults. That's why everyday formulas tend to lead with potassium.
If you mainly want electrolytes for long, hot or very sweaty sessions, a sodium-led sports product is designed for that. Guidance on fluid replacement during prolonged exercise focuses on replacing sodium and fluid lost in sweat (American College of Sports Medicine).
When electrolyte tablets are worth having
Feeling tired, light-headed or having a headache are common signs of dehydration, alongside thirst and dark urine (NHS). Even mild dehydration has been linked in research to changes in mood, concentration and how tired people feel (Popkin et al., Nutrition Reviews, 2010).
Plenty of people don't drink enough simply because they forget, or because plain water gets boring. A flavoured drink you enjoy is an easy way to drink more through the day.
Long days at a desk
Heated offices, back-to-back meetings and too much coffee make it easy to go hours without a proper drink. A glass with an electrolyte tablet in the morning and another after lunch is a simple habit to build.
Travel
Flights, long drives and trains all make it harder to drink regularly. Tablets are small and light, so a tube fits in a bag or coat pocket.
Warm weather
You sweat more on hot days, even without exercising. Drinking steadily through the day helps.
Shorter workouts
For a typical gym class or a 5k, an everyday tablet is usually enough if you want electrolytes at all. For long, hot or very sweaty sessions, a sodium-led sports product is designed for the job, because sweat sodium losses vary a lot between people (Baker, Sports Medicine, 2017).
What's in HIRO Hydration

One serving of HIRO electrolyte tablets is two effervescent tablets dissolved in about 300ml of water. It provides 300mg potassium, 180mg chloride, 65mg magnesium, 2mg zinc, 0.4mg manganese and 116mg sodium, with 5g carbohydrate and 20 kcal. Potassium and magnesium support normal muscle and nerve function. The tablets are vegan, have no allergens and no artificial colours, and are sweetened with sucralose. They aren't recommended for anyone under 18.
All flavours cost the same at each pack size: Lemon & Elderflower, Watermelon, Ginger & Lemongrass and Multi-Flavour.
Storing your tablets
Effervescent tablets react with moisture, so keep the lid tightly closed and store tubes somewhere cool and dry. Avoid leaving them in a hot car or a steamy bathroom. Keep a tube where you'll actually use it, such as a desk drawer, gym bag or travel washbag.
How to build the habit
- Pair it with something you already do, like your first glass of water or the post-lunch slump.
- Stick to the label: two tablets in about 300ml of water, and don't exceed the recommended servings.
- Keep drinking plain water too. An electrolyte drink adds to your fluid intake rather than replacing it.
Which pack to start with
- Trying them for the first time: the Multi-Flavour Triple Pack, so you can find your favourite flavour.
- Using them most weeks: a 6 Pack on subscription.
- Sharing at home or in an office, with no subscription: the 12 Pack.
Frequently asked questions
Where's the best place to buy electrolyte tablets online in the UK?
Buying direct from the brand usually gets you the freshest stock, full product information and the brand's guarantee. On marketplaces, check who's selling and shipping the product.
Is a subscription worth it?
If you use electrolytes most weeks, yes. HIRO subscriptions take 15% off, or 25% off on the three-monthly plan, with free delivery, and you can skip or cancel at any time.
How long does a tube last?
A HIRO tube holds 20 tablets, which makes 10 servings. At four drinks a week, a Triple Pack lasts about seven weeks.
Do electrolyte tablets give you energy?
They don't contain caffeine or much sugar, so they won't give you a buzz. Being properly hydrated helps you feel your normal self, and potassium and magnesium support normal muscle and nerve function.
Can I take electrolyte tablets every day?
For most healthy adults, an everyday tablet used as directed is designed for daily use. If you have a kidney condition, are pregnant or take medication that affects potassium, check with your GP or pharmacist first.
